It Predicts users needs

Personalizing your website or application allows you to predict the needs of your users. It enhances user experience by giving them helpful information before they ask.

 

It’s Dynamic

Content is essential for learning and adapting. 74% get annoyed by websites that don’t have the content they are looking for. Dynamic personalization is a way to provide content that can be used for adapting and learning. Personalizing UX design can provide helpful information based on user behavior, characteristics, attributes, and data analysis.

Why does UX design need to be personalized?

Personalization aims to deliver content and functionality that meets specific user interests or needs. This is done with minimal effort by targeted users. The system creates a profile of the user and adjusts its interface accordingly. Personalization can be used to deliver or highlight specific information, limit or grant access to certain tools or simplify transactions and processes by storing information about the user.

A user might see specials and promotions for places they have visited previously or searched for recently on a travel website. Personalization can be used to restrict access to tools that are only available to employees on an intranet. Personalization in an app might allow users to quickly access information that may interest them by storing past searches. Users are not required to do anything in these cases. The system will make the call based on the identity of the user.

 

There are two types of personalizations:

  • Role-based personalization – Users are grouped according to specific characteristics clearly defined and known in advance. This contrasts with how computers infer from each user’s interaction history. This is especially common in intranets, where HR databases about employees hold large amounts of data. This would allow employees to review their retirement accounts on their personal benefits dashboard, but only those who are enrolled in the company’s retirement plans.
  • Individualized personalization. Although it sounds redundant, this should be viewed as compared to role-based personalization. The computer creates a personal model for each user and presents different items to them. The computer could infer, perhaps controversially, that a user might be pregnant based on her recent purchases and searches.

Personalization has many benefits. It improves user experience and doesn’t require extra effort. Also, the computer does all of the work. However, personalization depends on the computer’s ability and willingness to predict each user’s wants. Some users might find it disturbing if the computer can guess certain things about them too well.

 

What amount of personalization is sufficient?

You don’t have to look far for an example. My coffee is ruined daily by the lack of harmony between people’s desire to feel unique and digital products that work intuitively and quickly.

Bad interface design can lead to inferior coffee. You would not expect it.

My office has a Nivona Caferomantica coffee maker. This popular model is ideal for offices because it allows users to save and modify their own coffee-making programs.

It sounds great on the surface. However, the reality is very different.

A knob allows users to adjust how much coffee they want the machine to grind after selecting a program (espresso, cappuccino, latte, etc.) You can adjust the volume of the coffee or the milk.

It does sound good. The problem is that the machine doesn’t reset the settings for the coffee being made. They are overwritten. It doesn’t matter if two people have it in their home and one drinks cappuccino while the other has espresso. It’s even convenient.

Imagine what would happen if 40 people began to alter the settings. It is true. There was absolute chaos.

 

There are many options that users can choose from.

While we agree that freedom is the most excellent value, we don’t always deal with absolute freedom regarding user interfaces.

The intellectual basis for developing the products we use every day was the open web concept and open software. We must not forget that the conversation occurred between some of the seventies’ most brilliant and adventurous minds. These pioneers of what we call IT were highly technical compared to the rest of society and very educated.

Before the revolution between Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak, computer interfaces were virtually impossible to use by mainstream users. Wozniak is the hardware father of Apple and the designer of Apple I, Apple II, and Apple III. He was keen from the start on the idea that computers should be open to all. Jobs was not a fan of this approach and could even sign himself down as such.

 

Do not confuse personalization with customization.

Personalization is creating an experience that’s unique and without customer involvement. The customer can, however, customize the experience by creating it. The system will personalize the experience based on the user’s preferences.

Personalization and customization lead to a better customer experience. This is the answer to your question:

  • The system handles all the work, so personalized experiences don’t require extra effort. The algorithm’s ability to predict each user’s needs is what you can rely on.
  • By allowing users to control the interface, customization will enable them to achieve exactly what they desire. Many users need to learn what they want and want to save time on customizing the interface.

Personalization is all about convenience. This feature is increasingly important to consumers when making a purchase decision. Before they spend any time using an app, users want a seamless experience.

Businesses that don’t recognize the importance of personalization in their UX design will lose many customers. It’s now a standard feature and not an option. A proper UX personalization strategy will make your website or app a success.
