How to Use PowerPoint Templates

A PowerPoint slide layout is a collection of placeholders for a slide. It’s simple, but it’s an essential tool for quick and efficiently design presentations.

 

 

You can build a presentation from the bottom up. To build a presentation, you would go to the Insert tab. Then, draw content boxes on the slide. This is a wasteful use of your time. Also, PowerPoint slide layouts make this process easier by using pre-built content placeholders. PowerPoint layouts allow for consistent slide design.

You must be on the Home tab of PowerPoint’s ribbon to set a slide’s layout. You’ll be able to see thumbnails of the PowerPoint layouts by clicking on the Layout dropdown.

Many PowerPoint themes offer a wide range of slide layouts. Many layout options give you many options for designing your content.

To apply a PowerPoint layout on the active slide, click on one of these thumbnails. As you create your presentation, you can add content to the placeholder boxes.

 

How do I apply a template to an existing PowerPoint?

As you have learned, Windows OS allows you to select a template.

1. Select File and then new.
2. You can navigate to New and search for a template. Or you can choose from the gallery or a featured template.

You can navigate to a personal template or workgroup template by selecting the tab next to Featured. This may be Personal or Shared. Or Custom depending on the circumstances. Then, open the folder containing the template.

Click Create to view a preview of the selected template.

The template is then applied to the blank presentation.

You can import slides from existing files if you don’t have any.

You can also apply the template to existing slides by following the next section.

If you have any slides already, apply the template.

 

You can import slides from existing slides into the File you just created.

1- Open the File containing the slides.

2- Click on the thumbnail pane to select the slides that you wish.

3- Copy selected slides using CTRL+C

4- To switch to the new File, right-click on the thumbnail pane and select Use Destination Theme under Paste Options.

 

In MAC OS, you start with a custom template.

Follow these steps to create a new presentation using a template.

1. Select File and then Open.
2. Navigate to where the template file is kept.
3. Click Open on the selected template file.
4. Select File and Save as.
5. Type a name in the dialogue box for your new presentation.
6. Choose PowerPoint Presentation format(.pptx).
7. Select the folder where you wish to save your presentation from the Where box.
8. You can import slides from existing files if you don’t have any.

How do I apply the new template to existing slides?

You can import slides from existing slides into the File you just created.

• Navigate to the File containing the slides.
• Click on the thumbnail pane to select the slides that you wish.
• Copy the slides you like (COMMAND+C).
• Move to the new File by right-clicking the thumbnail pane and then pasting the slides using COMMAND+V.
• All slides copied are placed in the new presentation and follow the template’s design.
• You can save the file and continue to create slides as you like.

 

 

How to edit a PowerPoint template?

Open your PowerPoint template.

1- You can search the internet for a PowerPoint template or make your own.

2- Click on the View tab. This ribbon will appear above your project.

3- Click Slide Master. The program window will be resized to accommodate both the single-slide preview and the entire blueprint of your slideshow. These are organized into groups. However, there is typically only one slide master and one group. All edits made here (not contextual) will be applied to all slides.

4. Edit the template. These slides are your master slides or blueprints for all other similar slides. You can change one slide to make it different throughout the slideshow.

5- Click Close master. It looks like a red X box. This is located at the bottom of the Slide Master toolbar.

6- Now save your template. To use it again in PowerPoint, you’ll need to save the File.

Select Save as from the File Tab.

Choose PowerPoint Template from the “Save As File Type” menu. The File will be saved in your Custom Office Templates folder with a .potx extension.

After you have given the template a name, click Save.
