What is a Dashboard UI?

At its simplest, a dashboard is a screen in your application that displays information. Normally, a dashboard provides the user a global overview, with access to the most important data, functions, and controls. In reality, a dashboard often becomes a sort of homepage, especially for power users.

1.Understand the Needs of the User

if you have read my previous blogs you must know that I will tell the most essential reason always at the first, so understanding the needs of users is the first and most crucial step.

we consider that you are a designer, and there is some basic information that you need to know like the data that you should collect through various user research methods can seriously impact the quality of the design and the user experience.

plus that there is some research that you need to do. When you research the target audience, you will learn what they want and need. Based on that information, you can determine what the most important data to use in the dashboard is.

2.Decide on an End Goal

in every project that you start you need to know this cause you can’t simply go with the flow and see where your gut takes you. so here is the same if you want to have to succeed in your dashboard design, you need to have many end goals in place.

3.Pick a Dashboard Type

there are 4 different dashboard types, and you had to choose one of them depending on your goal

  • Operational: Dashboards used for business intelligence purposes. Their goal is to measure, monitor, and manage operations on a more immediate or shorter time scale.
  • Strategic: Unlike operational dashboards, strategic dashboards are used for the long-term strategies of a business. They work by analyzing the most essential information based on trends.
  • Tactical: Dashboards full of an array of data. This data is being used mostly to help formulate the strategies for growth in mid-management circles.
  • Analytical: Dashboards with large bits of comprehensive data. Such data is used by analysts to help them create insights that help the business grow at an executive level.

now that you know different types of dashboards you had to choose one of them and if you don’t know which of them is subtle for you you can see other dashboards for inspiration.

4. Dashboard storytelling

if you want the visitor’s attention this one always works, the dashboard has the most valuable information so it needs to get the attention And there’s no better way to do it than by telling a story, whatever type of dashboard you choose to go with.

This structure should resemble an inverted pyramid — it starts with a narrow perspective, but expands as you move on.

These levels of granularity are essential to making a dashboard informative and the data easy to interpret.

A crowded dashboard will often have little whitespace and can hinder navigation. Therefore, by keeping important information on the surface and not overwhelming the user, we can ensure great UX.

5.Customization is important

so if you care about storytelling and you do it there are other things that you need to do plus that. every story has its own theme and style so it’s essential to allow users to customize dashboards. Create their own stories, so to speak.

so it needs to be clear This flexibility will ensure that your product’s design can serve the needs of a diverse crowd, working in a variety of niches. As a result, you won’t have to target your product to a subsection of your market.

if you need any recommendations for a customized dashboard I’ve collected a few:

6.Use the Five-Second Rule

Dashboards give users access to relevant information. Their main purpose is to resolve the frequently asked questions within a short timeframe. With that in mind, use the five-second rule.

as I’m sure you may be confused now I’m giving you a full explanation. so it is in mind that users want to spend 5 seconds to find the information that they need.

7.Go Minimalistic

honestly, we don’t want to be confused so f a dashboard has multiple visualizations, it will be crammed with too much information.

8.Put Emphasis on Information Architecture

you had to care about the most important ones to the least ones so check for designs that do such a thing for you. so somehow I can say that your design needs a balance to function.

9.Provide Context

you should provide context and compression values if you really want the user supposed to get your message.

When designing a dashboard, provide maximum information in the provided space. Even if the data seems obvious to you, it can still appear strange to the user. Therefore, provide comparison values and add titles to all of the charts you use.

10.Don’t Forget about Aesthetics

we need to do something like that for our own thoughts and beliefs when we first saw a dashboard we live in a society that’s focused on earth

11.On using colors

this one is the last way that I’m telling you but it’s so much important. colors will change our minds and side view of our thoughts so it is important to know the meaning of each color and people in different countries what think about that color

I collect some useful information about that :

  • Red—active, emotional, passionate, strength, love, intensity
  • Pink—sweet, romantic, playful, warm, compassionate, soft
  • Orange—warm, enthusiastic, successful, determined, friendly
  • Yellow—youthful, lively, energetic, fresh, optimistic
  • Green—fresh, calm, relaxed, trusting, peaceful, hopeful, healing
  • Blue—comfort, clarity, calm, trust, integrity, loyalty, reliability
  • Purple—glamour, power, nostalgia, luxury, ambition, spiritual
  • Gray—respect, wisdom, patience, modernity, longevity, intelligent
  • Black—powerful, bold, serious, elegant, luxurious, dramatic, formal
  • Brown—friendships, earth, home, outdoors, credibility, simplicity, endurance

In the end, there were ways that you can do them and design your dashboard as I mention that it’s so important to have a good dashboard.

but if you faced any problem during doing that my colleagues in temis marketing are here to help you the best way that they can so don’t be worry and ask us we will help you.
